Looking SW across Cardigan Bay at a line of
cumulonimbus tops heading towards Aberystwyth.
This and the next 2 shots were taken from a layby
just S of Llwyngwiril, between Aberdyfi and
Barmouth. I really like this photo!

And
this one!
|
Looking out from beneath one Cb anvil to another
Cb way out across the Irish Sea - note the
semi-translucent mammatus....
|
Here is the same group of heavy shower-clouds
looking across the estuary at Aberdyfi, some time
later. Note the velum-clouds - horizontal bands
of cloud adorning the upper parts of the main
cloud. These form when convection pushes up
through more stable layers of air.
|
On April 19th storms broke out over Ireland and,
amazingly, once they had decayed their anvils
continued across into Wales. This is looking down
Cwm Maethlon: faint mammatus-clouds mark the
underside of one of these anvil
"orphans"....
|
A better view was obtained further down Cwm
Maethlon towards the coast, although they are
mostly still fairly faint....
|
....while
this is another one photographed from the
Aberdyfi-Tywyn coast-road...
|
But mostly
April 2004 was a case of sunshine and flowers!!!!
