Following the convective fun of November 2nd, another gradual change occurred and by the following Friday, November 7th, a howling easterly was once again bending trees down the Dyfi valley.

But, coupled with a huge ground-swell coming in from the Atlantic, the clash of air and water in opposite directions made for a spectacular sight - even with a rather uniform boring sky this was worth recording. These photos were all taken at Borth.

This and the next 4 were all taken from the sea-front, without a tripod but with the camera on top of the groynes and the exposure set up with a 2-second delay. The breaking waves are up to 2.5m in height - this is a huge ground-sea....

Good chance for some "artistic cropping" of the scanned slides!!

This and the next one are handheld shots from the water's edge looking S towards Borth Head.....

Then it was time to have a go at wading into the surf and catching it as it came at me: with a force 7 from behind and a buffeting surf it was no easy job to avoid camera-shake, but this one came out nice and sharp. A sunset backdrop would have been ideal: can't have everything though and the images have a nice kind of simplicity about them...

Only a week later the zonal weather came back with a vengeance in the shape of the first decent autumnal cyclone so far this year. This was filmed for a forthcoming weather programme. Images of that epic day coming soon!
